There was some consternation from the White House today after Barbara Walters apparently told President Barack Obama she was retiring next year. That was news to ABC, last we heard.

"I need one more interview with you because I'm retiring next year," Babs allegedly told Obama during a break in their interview Thursday. TMZ says her mic was still on, so lots of people heard it. So is it true?

"Barbara has joked that she is retiring every year since the Clinton Administration," ABC News Senior Vice President Jeff Schneider told the site. "Anyone who just did a day trip to Syria, 90-minute prime time special and an interview with the President and First Lady hardly sounds like someone retiring from anything."

So she must have done it to score a god interview, then. "She's one of the greatest bookers who ever lived," Schneider said. So don't get too excited, The View isn't going anywhere.
