Beastie Boys cancel shows because Adam Yauch (aka MCA) has cancer
The Beastie Boys have canceled every upcoming concert and held off on releasing Hot Sauce Committe, Pt. 1 after Adam Yauch (a.k.a. MCA) announced in a YouTube video that he's have surgery for a cancerous tumor in his neck, Rolling Stone reports. But don't worry, his lovely singing voice will stay intact.
Yauch appeared in the video (watch above) with Adam Horowitz (that'd be Ad-Rock to you) to tell fans that he was diagnosed with a tumor in his Parotid gland, largest of the salivary glands, after going to a doctor following two months of swelling in his neck. It's a treatable form, however, and he should be able to continue his music career.
“I just need to take a little time to get this in check, and then we’ll release the record and play some shows,” Yauch said in a statement. “It’s a pain in the neck (sorry had to say it) because I was really looking forward to playing these shows, but the doctors have made it clear that this is not the kind of thing that can be put aside to deal with later.”
The group's latest album was slated for a Sept. 15 release but will be rescheduled. Shows they've got to cancel include Lollapalooza, All Points West and Austin City Limits. This just goes to show, when you have unexplained swelling for eight weeks, you should have that looked at.
