Beyonce was lip-synching national anthem during Obama inauguration
While we and a bunch of other folks gushed about Beyonce's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at President Obama's inauguration Monday, especially considering how she removed her earpiece halfway through, it seems it was all lip-synched. Can't America make any quality products anymore?
The Washington Post reports that although the singing was spectacular, it wasn't live, which is a relative rarity (the Marine Corps Band was mimicking playing their instruments, too. The Post notes that a live performance by cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinst Itzhak Perlman was staged at Obama's 2009 inauguration because of weather and wind, but this may be the first instance of the national anthem being pre-recorded.
"We don't know why Beyoncé decided to use prerecorded music," a spokesperson for the Marine Corps Band told the Post. "All music (for inaugural ceremonies) is prerecorded as a matter of course, and that's something we've done for years and years. The Marine Band did perform live throughout the ceremony but we received last-minute word that Beyoncé wanted to use the recording."
One big hint may have been that Beyonce actually posted a photo Sunday on Instagram showing her in the recording studio with members of the band. That's the biggest mild disappointment since we found out Whitney Houston was lip-synching at the Big Sombrero back during Super Boxl XXV.
