Britney Spears being sued for $10 million by business partners
Now that Britney Spears is back in the spotlight, it's got to be only a matter of time before she gets hit with some kind of lawsuit or runs afoul of the law. Oh, wait, she's been sued by former business partners for breach of contract, fraud and deceit. At least that wait is over.
RadarOnline says Britney and dad Jamie are being accused of being "sneaky and underhanded" for moving to cut Brand Sense Partment, LLC, out of a licensing agreement for Brit's Radiance fragrance for Elizabeth Arden, which came out last September. The amount being sought: $10 million.
"Britney secretly made a separate deal with Elizabeth Arden in a sneaky underhanded effort to circumvent and evade its obligations to Brand Sense," the suit states. "Effectively, Britney improperly and illegally cut Brand Sense out of the Elizabeth Arden deal. ... Brand Sense had a contractual right to a 35% commission on any Britney Spears-branded fragrance sold by Elizabeth Arden. But Mr. Spears complained that the commission was too high and said that Britney did not want to pay it."
Apparently a compromise was reached that would send royalties to Britney, but Brand Sense didn't know about it until Elizabeth Arden sent a letter on Feb. 16 showing the royalty report cut out the company. Given that the deal with Arden brings her $15 million per year, it's understandable that Brand Sense would be a little unhappy finding out the Spears clan was getting all the money through an expense report.
