Britney Spears is the highest-paid woman in music
While Cheryl Cole is scraping by on her meager X Factor guaranteed salary, her replacement Britney Spears is topping Forbes' list of highest-paid women in music for 2012. That just adds insult to injury for poor Cheryl, knowing that Brit made $58 million in the last year. That has to hurt.
Britney, 31, earned those millions through touring, endorsements and her new fragrance from Elizabeth Arden, plus her platinum album Femme Fatale. The X Factor judging gig is just kind of a hobby to keep her out of trouble. The total is comprised of earnings before fees and taxes from May 2011 to May 2012.
Right behind her is Taylor Swift, who made $57 million from pretty much being everywhere, all the time. Rihanna is a respectable third with $53 million for basically the same reasons as Britney: Fragrance, endorsements and touring. All those half-naked Instagram photos don't hurt. Lady Gaga pulled in $52 million for touring nonstop and another perfume. We're sensing a trend here. Katy Perry and her $45 million will have to look into that.
Rounding out the top 10 are single-named stars Beyonce, who will augment this year's $40 million with a $50 million deal with Pepsi and a new album next year; Adele with $35 million; Sade with $33 million; Madonna, hanging in there with $30 million; And Shakira, whose fragrance Elixir is only good for $20 million. Meanwhile, The Juice* checking account was overdrawn not once, but twice this last week!
