Brooke Smith being booted off Grey's Anatomy
Is the fauxmance between Erica Hahn and Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy really grating your nerves? Join the club, because it seems creator Shonda Rhimes has decided to not only end the relationship, but actress Brooke Smith's run on the show, as well.
"Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian. Clearly it's not an issue, as we have a lesbian character on the show -- Calliope Torres," Rhimes said in a statement. "... Unfortunately, we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke's character would sustain in the long run."
Sara Ramirez's character will reportedly be pretty blue about the whole situation, but imagine how Brooke feels.
"I was very excited when they told me that Erica and Callie were going to have this relationship. And I really hoped we were going to show what happens when two women fall in love and that they were going to treat it like any heterosexual couple on TV," she told Entertainment Weekly. "And so I was surprised and disappointed when they just suddenly told me that they couldn't write for my character any more."
To be fair, the writers have gone out of their way to make Hahn annoying, and that has nothing to do with her being a lesbian. We wouldn't mind seeing if she follows through on her threat to cut out Meredith's heart, though.
