California just says no to Jessica Sierra
From our Breaking News blog:
Ex-American Idol Jessica Sierra was supposed to fly to Los Angeles at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
On Monday, a Hillsborough judge ordered Sierra, 22, to rehab instead of prison. But now California won't grant her an emergency probation transfer, said Assistant State Attorney Pam Bondi.
A typical transfer usually takes about 30-45 days. Defense attorney John Fitzgibbons said at Monday's hearing that delays with the state of California had messed up Sierra's plans to head there after initially being sentenced to probation last fall. She stayed in Tampa and ended up drunk and arrested in Ybor City, a violation of her probation.
Sierra is due back in court at 8:30 a.m. Thursday to sort things out.
Another potential problem: After her release from jail this morning, Sierra briefly talked to reporters. At the violation of probation hearing on Monday, Hillsborough Circuit Judge Daniel Perry made clear that he didn't want Sierra giving interviews.
"This is not a career," he said then.
