Celebs applaud Chris Brown's tearful Michael Jackson tribute
While you may have been casting a wary eye on Chris Brown at Sunday night's BET Awards, in which he apparently channeled Michael Jackson before breaking down onstage, the folks in the audience seemed to really be buying his brand. You'll excuse us for still thinking he faked the whole thing to get sympathy, especially since it seems to have worked.
MTV says actress Taraji P. Henson seemed to be especially smitten by his blubbery rendition of Man in the Mirror only a couple days after the one-year anniversary of MJ's death (watch it below).
"You know who stole my heart tonight?" Henson asked at the after party? Folks like Diddy, Queen Latifah and BET's Tigger all shouted "Chris Brown," leading Henson to gush, "He was so vulnerable. I love you, Chris!"
Smooth, that Chris Brown. Even Trey Songz, who won Best Male R&B, was impressed.
"Chris killed that. He left his heart on the stage," Trey said. "He gave genuine emotion. I was proud of him and I was happy for him for having that moment."
A cynical sort could point out that even Brown's admission of guilt for beating Rihanna -- "I let y'all down before, but I won't do it again." -- while accepting the AOL Fandemonium award seemed cold and calculated in an attempt to reinvigorate his career. And as far as The Juice* is concerned, you'd be right.
