Chris Brown apologizes for beating Rihanna
In a video posted on Monday on TMZ (watch it above), Chris Brown apologizes for beating (and choking, and biting) Rihanna earlier this year because she dared to start an argument. You can almost see the pain on his face as he mindlessly reads the word off the teleprompter.
"I wish I had the chance to live those few moments again, but unfortunately I can't, he says in the video, stating that he hadn't spoken out before because his lawyers had advised him to not talk about it, i.e. incriminate himself before his guilty plea to felony assault. "I cannot go into what happened, and most importantly, I'm not going to sit here and make any excuses. I take great pride in me being able to exercise self-control and what I did was inexcusable. I am very sad and very ashamed of what I've done."
He goes on to say that this public apology was a long time coming.
"My mother and my spiritual teachers have taught me way better than that. I have told Rihanna countless times, and I'm telling you today that I am truly, truly sorry, and I wasn't able to handle the situation both differently and better."
Brown also says there's a reason this went down, and he hopes he will be able to change.
"No one is more disappointed than in me than I am. As many of you know, I grew up in a home where there was domestic violence and I saw firsthand what uncontrolled rage could do. I have sought and am continuing to seek help to ensure that what occurred in February can never happen again."
Why does this all smell suspiciously like the beginnings of a comeback bid? We can only hope fans won't forgive him.
