Christina Aguilera talks about dad's abuse in documentary

Christina Aguilera opens up about her abusive father in a new documentary for E!, saying she channeled her frustration into her music. That would explain that whole Drrty phase.

"I witnessed a lot of unpleasant things -- a lot of pushing and shoving and fighting and quarrelling," she said. "Growing up I did not feel safe. Feeling powerless is the worst feeling in the world. I turned to singing as an outlet. The pain at home is where my love for music came from."

Her mother, Shelly Kearns, recalled one day finding a four-year-old Christina with blood dripping from her chin: "I scooped her up and said, 'Oh my God. What's wrong?' She told me, 'Daddy wanted to take a nap and I made too much noise.'"

Shelly left Fausto Aguilera and took Christina and her sister Rachel to live with Shelly's mother. Christina hasn't seen her father much since, although he has begged for forgiveness.

"I let him back into my life briefly but I soon realised that he is not necessary in my life," Christina said.
