Christina Aguilera tries to out-gaga Lady Gaga in 'Not Myself Tonight'
After years of not really caring about where she's been, we see that Christina Aguilera's back from her child-rearing adventure, releasing her latest album's first single, Not Myself Tonight. All we can say is, it's about what we expected from Xtina, all right.
The new video, directed by Hype Williams and from her new album Bionic, features Aguilera rolling around soundstages in various fetishistic outfits, kissing girls, wearing PVC and having an orgy in a church, all the while proclaiming "If you don't like it, f--- you." Nice. So what of charges that she's trying to match up with the current queen of pop, Lady Gaga?
"It just comes with the territory. That in particular, is not even worth wasting the breath to comment on," she tells MTV. "I've been around for over a decade and I think my work speaks for myself."
Indeed, her work spoke volumes when no one really liked Drrty, but everyone seemed to think she found her stride with the Jean Harlow look she adopted for Back to Basics. Maybe Christina belongs in the 1940s; after all, there'd be no Gaga or Britney Spears to steal all her thunder when she tries too hard.
