Christina Applegate had a 'total emotional collapse' after double mastectomy
Actress Christina Applegate may have appeared strong and stalwart in the face of a double mastectomy for breast cancer in 2008, but she suffered what she called a "total emotional collapse" after the procedure, she says in a new interview. Of course, it was partly the media's fault, but it took awhile for her to come to terms with it.
"The good thing is that we got the information out, but talking about the facts of the disease, I didn't have to see what was going on with me," she told More magazine, according to RadarOnline. She said since the press learned about the surgery right after it happened, she didn't have time to process it. "I think when it slowed down, all that came crashing down."
Her friends, family and a spiritual adviser helped her deal with the strain, but her old friend Martyn LeNoble was a big help. That's why the two fell in love.
"We had always cared deeply for one another when we were friends. And he came and put me under his wing. That was it -- he was supposed to come," she said. The couple had a daughter, Sadie Grace in 2011, and hope to have another, but may not be able to.
"Because of some things that happened during my pregnancy, I don't know if I can," the 40-year-old said. "I hope I can. We'll see." Well, maybe we can hope to see them get married someday, at least.
