Colbert's in it to win it

All of a sudden, Fred Thompson is no longer the most cartoonish conservative celebrity running for president. Stephen Colbert announced during Tuesday night's show that he's seeking the land's highest office. "I have heard the call," he told his screaming fans. Colbert's been drawing out the announcement all week, penning a column for Maureen Dowd in the New York Times, and apearing on The Daily Show just minutes before his announcement to say he hadn't yet decided. Colbert said he planned to run in his home state, South Carolina, "and South Carolina alone," according to the AP. It's all a big satirical put-on, of course, designed to drum up publicity for his new book, I Am America (And So Can You!). But it'll be an entertaining ride, especially now that Colbert has outlined three possible tickets: Colbert-Huckabee, Colbert-Putin and Colbert-Colbert.
