Craig T. Nelson turned down 'Modern Family' over money
Everyone here at The Juice* fawns over Modern Family (well, Sofia Vergara's Gloria, anyway), but did you know Craig T. Nelson was orignally chosen to play Ed O'Neill's Jay Pritchett? While he landed a decent show with Parenthood, Nelson admitted to Access Hollywood that the decision to turn down the ABC role was over money.
"I’m old enough to say it, I guess. That was it," Craig said. "I really wanted to do Modern Family and I really liked the script and I liked the people. I just said, 'You know what? I’ve been doing this too long.' We’re in the middle of a cutback here, ladies and gentlemen, in Hollywood and salaries have gone way, way down. I just felt disrespected to tell you the truth." Awwwwww, that's so sad. Meanwhile, The Juice* will soon have to start holding car washing in the tbt* parking lot to make ends meet.
Nelson does have nice things to say about his current job: "I really like it because it's building and it wasn't a hit out of the box, and for me, that ensemble, that group of people, those kids are so incredible," he noted. "I love going to work." Don't be offended, Craig, but we like Ed in that role way better, anyway. All those years of playing Al Bundy on Married ... With Children really paid off in comic timing.
