Daryl Hannah arrested for protesting Keystone XL pipeline

tbd-darylhannah100812.jpgErstwhile mermaid and sword-wielding assassin Daryl Hannah was arrested in northwest Texas on Thursday for protesting the Keystone XL pipeline. Her partner in crime: a 78-year-old landowner. What a pair of evildoers!

Hannah and Eleanor Fairchild blocked heavy equipment in rolling through Fairchild's Winnsboro farm 100 miles east of Dallas, the AP reports. The pair were arrested for criminal trespassing and taken to jail, but Daryl got a charge of resisting arrest, too. TransCanada, the company working on the pipeline bringing tar sands oil from Alberta to the Gulf Coast for refinement, was not happy.

"It is unfortunate Ms. Hannah and other out-of-state activists have chosen to break the law by illegally trespassing on private property," spokesman David Dodson told the AP in an email. He said protesters were "putting their own safety and the safety of others at risk."

Hannah has put her own safety at risk before, getting arrested in August 2011 while protesting in Washington, D.C. The pipeline's permit to cross into the United States has been denied by President Obama, pending further environmental impact reviews. That'll give Daryl time to get arrested at least once or twice more, if she really applies herself.
