Robert "Joe" Halderman, the former TV producer who tried to blackmail David Letterman, was freed Thursday after only four months in jail, the AP reports. See, that Lindsay Lohan thing wasn't a fluke.

Halderman got time off for good behavior from his six-month term at Rikers Island, but he still has to complete 1,000 hours of community service, and he'll be on probation for five years. He pleaded guilty in the spring to attempted grand larceny after he demanded $2 million from Letterman to keep quiet about the late-night host's infidelity, which Dave handled like a champ.

"He survived this, and he's glad to be getting off the island," his lawyer, Gerald Shargel, said. The former 48 Hours producer is looking for work now. Hey, he's up for a News and Documentary Emmy this year!
