David Letterman extortionist gets six months in jail

Robert "Joe" Halderman
, the 52-year-old former CBS TV producer who tried to extort $2 million out of David Letterman, was sentenced to six months in the lockup Tuesday. Dave wasn't even in court to watch the root of his biggest ratings boost in years head off to the cooler, either.

Halderman was silent as he shuffled out of a Manhattan courtroom, the AP reports. When he gets out of jail, he'll still have to serve 1,000 hours of community service for pleading guilty to grand larceny.

In case you forgot, Halderman had tried to get Letterman to pay him in order to keep quiet about Dave's past dalliances with Robert's ex-girlfriend. Letterman then won a 2009 Juice*y Award for How To Handle a Sex Scandal by revealing his infidelity on the air, an honor that Dave truly has yet to fully appreciate.
