David Spade gives slain officer's family $25k
“I’m from Arizona so I’m always a little aware of things that are going on there,” Spade said. “It just struck me as such a rough situation just because cops in general get kind of a bad rap lately and people forget it is the scariest job out there.”
The actor hasn’t spoken with Erfle’s wife (or his two sons, 5 and 3), but transferred the amount into an account set up for donations. Erfle, 33, was shot Sept. 18 while trying to arrest an illegal immigrant. Erik Jovani Martinez gave Erfle a fake name because he had an outstanding felony warrant, but was such a freaking genius that he used a false name belonging to someone who also had an outstanding warrant.
The officer had recently returned to duty after battling cancer.
