Demi Lovato quits Jonas Bros. tour, checks into treatment center

Fans of factory-made Disney pop acts are shocked to hear that singer Demi Lovato has dropped out of her tour with the Jonas Bros. to check into treatment center for "emotional and physical issues she has dealt with for some time," TMZ says. In a breaking news report, it seems bullying and low self-esteem are an issue for teenagers.

"Demi has decided to take personal responsibility for her actions and seek help," a rep confirms to People after the website's initial report Monday evening. "She is doing just that. Demi and her family ask that the media please respect their privacy during this difficult time. She regrets not being able to finish her tour, but is looking forward to getting back to work in the near future."

Her father, Patrick Lovato, told RadarOnline that the stress of working in showbiz got to her.

"There are a lot of pressures. That is one of the things I worried about when she signed with Disney," he said. "It's just going to happen."

You'd think two parents who were in the entertainment game would have known better. Patrick and Demi's mother, Dianne, both played in bands.

Numerous outlets are now saying that it stems from bullying, a problem the 18-year-old has dealt with since the seventh grade. She dropped out of middle school for homeschooling, she told Ellen DeGeneres in 2008. There have also been rampant rumors of cutting, eating disorders and and other self-abuse, but not drug use.

"She needed help before a smaller problem got worse," a source tells Us. "She is doing okay. She has been forced into showbiz from a young age and that puts tremendous pressure on someone ... everyone is really happy she is getting help."

The statement adds that she "regrets not being able to finish her tour, but is looking forward to getting back to work in the near future." She was slated to perform in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Tuesday. TMZ salaciously adds that there was apparently some sort of "physical altercation with a female member of her tour" -- reportedly a dancer -- that was the "catalyst" in her quitting the tour. The stock Juice* answer, of course, is Thunderdome.
