Demi Lovato teams up with Secret to stop bullying

New X Factor judge Demi Lovato has had a hard time growing up, what with the music career and the TV show and the fame and whatnot. That's why she's agreed to be an ambassador for Secret anti-perspirant's Mean Stinks campaign to stamp out bullying. Girls, you should pay attention to the young lady who ended up being hospitalized for cutting and eating disorders.

"I had a really tough time when I was in middle school," the 20-year-old told People magazine. "People would write 'hate petitions' (about me) and send them around to be signed. They'd have CD-bashing parties of my demos. They'd come to my house, stand across the street and yell things. It was a very emotional time for me, and all I wanted to do was get away."

Lovato decided to join up with the Secret program, which donates $1 from every Mean Stinks Clinical Strength deodorant sold to the program (up to $150,000), because she admires the goal of empowering young women. "I heard about the program last year, and thought it was such a great opportunity," she said. "They're really trying to put an end to bullying."

She's already started, going to New York's Young Women's Leadership School on Thursday to discuss the program. Part of the shtick is having girls paint their pinky fingernails blue, to symbolize a promise they won't bully people. Hey, Secret isn't forcing them to do that, are they?
