Denzel Washington gives Fordham University $2.25 million

From time to time, we actually give celebrities credit for being charitable, so let's have a round of applause for Denzel Washington, who just gave his alama mater, Fordham University in New York City, $2.25 million. Plus, he indirectly helped The Cosby Show's Phylicia Rashad get a job, too!

The university said Monday that Washington has given $2 million to endow the Denzel Washington Chair in Theatre, and another $250,000 to establish a scholarship for a minority undergraduate student studying theater at Fordham, the AP writes. Rashad, who played mom Claire Huxtable, also has been named part of the school's faculty as the very first Denzel Washington Chair in Theatre, so that's exciting.

Washington loved his time at Fordham, saying late theater professor Bob Stone was one of his biggest sources of inspiration. Why not call it the Bob Stone Chair in Theatre, then?
