'Desperate Housewives' may or may not get the boot this season
If you're more the Desperate Housewives type, sorry to say, but it's entirely possible the upcoming eighth season of the show could be its last. It all depends on whether ABC can come up with something better than five women of a certain age doing maddeningly stupid stuff. It's been working for the Real Housewives series on Bravo just fine.
"It's all dependent on the ratings," a source tells TV Guide about creator Marc Cherry's long-running show. "It will be up against some stiff competition." Wow, that's genius analysis, right there. By that they mean CBS's The Good Wife and NBC's Sunday Night Football, which may or may not happen (thanks a lot, NFL lockout). Cherry has long said the show was meant to run seven seasons, but he's squeezed another year out of it, nonetheless.
Furthermore, Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria -- you're on your own, Vanessa Williams -- have contract options to return for a ninth year, so get ready to watch the Wisteria Lane posse potentially slog through two more seasons of this. A decision could be made as early as August, TV Guide says. It's still better than another reality show.
