Destiny's Child settle lawsuit, but Kelly Rowland still hates Beyonce
That Destiny's Child reunion you were hoping for isn't going to happen -- not even in court. Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams were going to get back together to face a copyright infringement suit for their song Cater 2 U, but they've settled. Aw, we were hoping for some fireworks.
The trio were scheduled to meet in Chicago on Tuesday to work on the dispute, in which Rickey Allen claimed the group stole his copyrighted song, but they've reached an undisclosed settlement, the Chicago Sun-Times says. Still, Rowland was hopping mad at Beyonce's dad, Matthew Knowles, whom she blames for this whole mess, the New York Daily News says.
"Matthew has a long history of trying to get songwriters to add Beyoncé's name to songs she didn't compose, just so she gets publishing royalties,"a source says of the group's one-time manager. "That information eventually became widely known, and now anyone who wants to accuse Kelly or Destiny's Child of stealing material has ammunition to file a lawsuit. Kelly is livid."
Considering Beyonce's scuffles with folks like Ne-Yo (who contested B wrote the song Irreplaceable), it's easy to see why Kelly feels that way. She even fired Matthew as her manager back in January.
"Kelly isn't happy having to fight these allegations," the source says. "She feels as though this is just another mess that Matthew got them into while only trying to serve the sole interest of his daughter."
The suit may have settle, but we know the simple answer to this other problem: Thunderdome.
