Eddie Murphy may be in line to host the next Oscars
After this year's Oscars hosting disaster of trying to young up the show with Anne Hathaway and James Franco, it sounds like the Academy is thinking of going in a very different direction. Forget Billy Crystal; can you imagine Eddie Murphy as the host?
Rumor has it Oscars producer Brett Ratner was going into a meeting with bigwigs Tuesday to tell them he wanted Murphy to host the show, and only Murphy, Deadline.com says. Some sites are saying it's a done deal, but Deadline insists not yet, although Murphy is "showing interest."
Well, if he can make the move from foul-mouthed comic to maker of children's movies, all the while denying his love child with Melanie Brown is his responsibility, stranger things have obviously happened. He's entertaining and loves the Oscars -- and don't think the oft-decried lack of racial diversity at the Oscars isn't spurring this idea.
Speaking of Crystal, the site also notes the comedian may come back in a big way somehow, although not as sole host. Maybe we should all just remember the good old days, when Billy came onstage strapped to a hand truck like Silence of the Lambs' Hannibal Lecter 20 years ago and be happy with that.
