Eddie Murphy will officially host Oscars, Academy says
Those rumors that Eddie Murphy will be picked to host the next Oscars ceremony have turned out to be true, with show producer Brett Ratner officially offering Academy President Tom Sherak as his only choice to host during a meeting Tuesday. It'll be interesting to see if Eddie actually plays five different hosts, or just himself.
Deadline.com says that Ratner has asked Murphy if he would be interested in hosting, and he officially said yes, so the Academy has agreed to the choice. Variety confirmed the choice, although Deadline noted this is pretty soon to find a host, since the spot is usually chosen in January.
"Eddie is a comedic genius, one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever," Ratner said. "With his love of movies, history of crafting unforgettable characters and his iconic performances -- especially on stage -- I know he will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the show Don and I want to produce in February." He'll also likely bring a 30-second broadcast delay with him, if the censors have their way.
