Ellen DeGeneres laments gay marriage ban
Ellen DeGeneres says she's "saddened beyond belief" by the passage of Proposition 8 in California, banning gay marriage.
The talk show host said in a statement to the AP that she, "like millions of Americans, felt like we had taken a giant step toward equality" by electing Barack Obama as president, but with the passage of Prop. 8, "we took a giant step away."
DeGeneres had donated $100,000 to fight the measure. It must be a bittersweet consolation to Ellen that she managed to wed longtime partner Portia de Rossi in August, after the state supreme court legalized gay marriage in May.
DeGeneres says she will "continue to speak out for equality for all of us." Yeah, something tells us we'll be hearing about this again come next November.
