Eric Dane, Rebecca Gayheart sue Billy Corgan over fallen tree
It's always ugly when minor celebrities tussle, as is the case now that Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart are suing Billy Corgan over a felled tree near the couple's property in Beverly Hills. Dane is probably just mad the series premiere of Grey's Anatomy was so maudlin and overwrought.
TMZ says a dispute over the Nov. 2011 incident, in which a reportedly 50-foot tall eucalyptus fell from Corgan's property onto the Dane-Gayheart compound during a windstorm, was not only dangerous from an 800-pound log perspective, it also threatened a then-nine-months pregnant Gayheart with live power line. In a lawsuit in L.A. County Superior Court, Gayheart allegedly had to flee a "quickly flooding" house but had to avoid the dangers of electrocution.
The lawsuit claims Dane warned Corgan about the danger of the giant, vengeful tree, but Corgan denies that. "I was horrified when I learned about the tree falling during what was a massive storm, a storm with winds strong enough to uproot a 50 ft tree by its base! Thankfully no one was injured," the Smashing Pumpkins frontman told the site.
Corgan says he had similar trees removed from his property after the storm to prevent future accidents. Dane and Gayheart, meanwhile, have demanded unspecified damages for nuisance, negligence and injunctive relief, TMZ says. That last one sounds like a particularly threatening condition.
