Fantasia Barrino is losing one of her houses
Ed McMahon isn't the only one dealing with foreclosure. American Idol season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino may be losing a $1.3 million house in Charlotte, N.C., due to legal troubles, the New York Post says. Just in time for Christmas!
Barrino apparently defaulted on a $58,000 loan from Weston-based Broward Energy Management to pay back taxes to the IRS, the company's lawyer, Laurence Goldman, told the Post. Those money problems may or may not be related to the fact that her 6,232-square-foot home on a golf course is slated to be auctioned off Jan. 12 unless she makes some missed payments.
The Post says the 6-bedroom, 5.5-bath house was paid for with a $1 million mortgage from Bank of America last year. Fantasia apparently never answered the charges against her, so the judge ruled against her by default. A supposed relative at the residence told the paper it was a misunderstanding because Barrino's lawyer didn't show up in court, although we're pretty sure he's had ample time to make sure her bills are paid.
But don't cry for her just yet -- housing blog RealEstalker says Fantasia has another home nearby she bought in 2004 for a mere $740,000, which apparently isn't in financial trouble. What a bargain!
