Fiona Apple cancels South American leg of tour to stay home with her dying dog
Fiona Apple has decided to cancel the South American leg of her tour, but it's for a reason her fans are sure to respect: She wants to stay at home with her dying 14-year-old pit bull, Janet. How can you get mad at her for that?
In a lengthy, handwritten letter posted on Facebook, Apple writes about how she adopted the dog when Janet was a 4-month-old victim of a dogfighting ring, and wants to stay with her as she dies from a chest tumor. The dog has Addison's disease, requiring Cortisol injections, so traveling is difficult, so Apple isn't going anywhere.
"She's my best friend and my mother and my daughter, my benefactor, and she's the one who taught me what love is. I can't come to South America. Not now," Apple writes, in what may be the saddest thing a dog lover could possibly read this year. "I just can't leave her now, please understand.
If I go away again, I’m afraid she'll die and I won't have the honor of singing her to sleep, of escorting her out."
Here's a link to read it, if you dare. Bring your Kleenex. We're sure South America will understand.
