Frank Darabont no longer showrunner for 'Walking Dead'

27

July

Just as the PR machine for the second season of Walking Dead gears up, executive producer Frank Darabont is stepping down, Deadline.com reports. That bodes ill for a project he fought to get off the ground for the last half-decade.

The site says that despite Darabont just appearing at San Diego Comic-Con last Friday to promote the show, he won't be in charge of day-to-day operations on the zombiefest anymore. There was no indication of what the real reason for his departure was, but the site opines it's because he couldn't adjust to "the daily grind of producing a TV series." Interesting, since the AMC series only had seven episodes, and Darabont was going off about how happy he was to be working on the show.

There's further talk he may stay on in some capacity, maybe as an occasional writer, producer or director, but for now, there's whispers that exec Glen Mazzara may replace him as showrunner. In any event, we have the trailer for season two, slated to start Oct. 16, so you can watch that and forget what's behind the scenes.
