FX renews 'American Horror Story' for second season

FX decided to wait all the way until Halloween to announce it is renewing wunderkind series American Horror Story for a second season. That wouldn't have anything to do with the four-hour marathon it's showing tonight, would it?

Entertainment Weekly says it is one of the fastest show pickups FX has ever done, since it usually waits until a fifth episode to decide whether something lives or dies, but an average of 4.2 million viewers per episode means they're going all Walking Dead on us.

"It's one thing to have the ambition and guts to reinvent a genre in a way that makes it captivatingly fresh for a broad audience — it's something else entirely to have the craft to back that ambition up," FX president John Landgraf said. "(Creators) Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have hit the trifecta with Nip/Tuck, Glee and now American Horror Story, which will be scaring FX's viewers to death for many years to come."

Now they're talking stretching it out for several years? Oh, great, what a wonderful way to ruin it.
