'G.I. Joe' sequel gets release date, will clear out characters
Being one of the gullible sorts that actually gave in to 1980s nostalgia and paid to see G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (sigh, yes, get your low blows in now), The Juice* is kind of shocked to hear that the sequel, which is slated for Aug. 10, 2012, will only feature three of the characters from the original. Well, that's what Scarlett says, anyway.
SlashFilm.com points out that erstwhile redheaded soldier girl Rachel Nichols tweeted via @RachelNichols1 about the planned sequel, which will be directed by Jon Chu, saying, "GI JOE 2 News Flash: The only characters to return in the JON CHU directed sequel will be SNAKE EYES, STORM SHADOW, and DUKE..." That's apparently because the mastermind of Justin Bieber: Never Say Never wants it that way, and that Rachel is out of a job.
Hey, that's great and all, but is the answer from that smoking wreck of a film really to only bring back Channing Tatum, Ray Park and Lee Byung-hun? They're probably going to resurrect that Marvel comic-book storyline about Arashikage clan and ... wait, that's way too much geekiness. Let's just be happy Sienna Miller has already said no and call it a day.
