Glee singer Charice Pempengco's father killed in Philippines
Glee singer Charice Pempengco had to cancel her appearances in Singapore on Wednesday and Thursday, disappointing legions of fans. The reason: Oh, her father was stabbed to death in the Philippines, is all.
"I am not going to be there to be part of David Foster and Friends concert," the 19-year-old said in a post Tuesday on Twitter via @officialcharice. "I have to go back to the Philippines as soon as possible to be with my family. I hope you all understand. I love you all and I will see you next year.
Ricky Pempengco, a 40-year-old construction worker, was at a grocery store in San Pedro late Monday when he bumped a drunk who then stabbed him in the chest and back, police told the AP. There's a reward worth $470 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco, as it says on her birth certificate, was estranged from her father, but noted in Tagalog and English on Twitter "I loved him and I will still love him. He's still my Dad after all." In the past, she told Oprah Winfrey she recalled being 3 years old when her father choked her mother and threatened her with a shotgun. Charice and her mother left and she hadn't seen him since.
