Gretchen Wilson gets her GED
Perhaps you already suspected that the woman who sings "Redneck Woman" and "Homewrecker" does not have a doctorate of women's studies from Wellesley. But it may surprise you to learn that Gretchen Wilson didn't even have a high school diploma ... but she will soon. Wilson, 34, passed her General Educational Development exam in April and will wear a cap and gown during a May 15 graduation ceremony. She says she took her GED to help inspire her 7-year-old daughter, Grace, and the 20 percent of adult Tennesseans who don't have a high school diploma. "I don't want to be the dummy that says, 'I don't know how to do that,'" Wilson told The Tennessean. "It's something that I should have done a long time ago and now I can file it away. ... I'm just walking a little taller."
Elsewhere in the Muzik Mafia, John Rich (probably of Big & Rich, or possibly Brooks & Dunn, or Pinkard & Bowden, we're not quite sure), laid into Paula Abdul the other day during an NBC press event last week in California. "American Idol infuriates me as an artist," Rich said, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "They're being fake about it. When you can't make a cognizant coment about someone's performance and you're commenting on something that happened the day before, why don't you just walk up onstage and slap them right across the face while you're at it? As an artist, I would just flip them the bird and walk off the stage. ... She wasn't even paying attention to what was going on. ... Don't try to con (fans). And I think that's why American Idol, in my opinion, is just dive-bombing. I can't stand watching it. I wouldn't want to be on that show now if you gave me a $100 bill." Paula could not be reached for comment, as the Hollywood Reporter does not have a bureau on Mars. But Fox did say this in a statement: "John Rich's ungentlemanly and opportunistic comments are particularly disturbing considering the fact that he attended a taping of American Idol last April, told producers, judges and performers he enjoyed himself and also did an interview with a crew from American Idol Extra where he was extremely complimentary toward the show." John Rich vs. Paula Abdul! It's on! It's ... oh, hell, we just don't care that much about this rivalry. Wake us when Travis Tritt takes on Simon.
