Grey's Anatomy finale features wedding site
Yes, we have an unhealthy obsession with some TV shows, including Grey's Anatomy, but not as much as Katherine Heigl's Izzie Stevens, who apparently is the mastermind behind a faux wedding Web site for characters Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd at theknot.com, the AP says.
Show creator Shonda Rhimes got the idea while scenes of Heigl taking photos of Ellen Pompeo in a dress were being filmed. It went live last Thursday and got 42,000 hits the first day, despite not being promoted.
"We love to create other experiences that relate to the show and that don't break the fourth wall," said Michael Benson, executive vice president of marketing for ABC Entertainment. And, of course, to get people to watch the show's season finale on May 14.
And while it has the usual blather about the proposal and the dress and so on, the really cool part is the registry, which asks guests to donate to the American Academy of Neurology Foundation, American Skin Association and Alzheimer's Association. Too bad there's a 90 percent chance there's no wedding.
