Grindhouse avoids NC-17, will still be gross
The Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino exploitation homage Grindhouse has gotten an R rating, according to the New York Post. That'll help you sleep at night, knowing the splatterfest has had some of its gorier scenes pared down. Rumor has it the MPAA wanted to give the flick (actually two short flicks smashed together) an NC-17 since it featured scenes like a woman performing a sex act only to discover her boyfriend has been decapitated, a fat man eating a baby and an "intermission" featuring vignette trailers of fictional movies like Werewolf Women of the SS. If we were Rodriguez or Tarantino, we'd start renegotiating for a cut of DVD sales, which surely will restore the worst (best?) of the cut footage.
