Hans Zimmer composes instrumental to raise money for Colorado shootings

Academy Award winning composer Hans Zimmer, who scored The Dark Knight Rises, is using his musical talent to raise money for casualties of the Aurora, Col. shooting rampage. Zimmer composed an 8 1/2 minute instrumental titled Aurora, available on iTunes for $1.29, with all proceeds going to the city’s victim relief fund.

A midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises was the setting where James Holmes allegedly killed 12 people, injuring 58 others.

“I recorded this song in London in the days following the tragedy as a heartfelt tribute to the victims and their families,” Zimmer posted on his Facebook page.

Aurora features an ethereal choir chanting over somber electronic chords; a formless yet soothing New Age dirge. The song was ranked 48th among iTunes downloads Friday. Aurora can also be heard on numerous free sites including YouTube but that would defeat Zimmer’s worthwhile purpose, wouldn’t it?
