'Harry Potter' actress Afshan Azad pleads for father and brother after they threatened to kill her
Harry Potter actress Afshan Azad pleaded with a British court to let her father and brother go after they were charged with threatening to kill her, but magistrates have ordered them to stand trial anyway. What else are they going to do? Send them home to live with her?
The U.K.'s Daily Star says Abdul Azad, 54, and his son Ashraf, 28, were to face charges in machester after allegedly making threats to Afshan after she was overheard talking to her Hindu boyfriend on the phone. The 22-year-old Muslim says she was beaten and then told her father and brother would kill her if she continued to date the boy. That didn't prevent her from telling the magistrates she "dearly loved" them and wanted to keep them out of prison.
"I dearly love my father and brother," Afshan said. "The proceedings have caused me no end of distress and if it goes ahead, it will make things much worse for me."
Her father and brother were granted bail on condition they not contact Afshan.
