Hitler bomber's family hates Scientology
Remember how we said li’l Tommy Cruise was getting set to play a would-be assassin of Adolf Hitler in some movie going into production? That United Artists film is based on the true story of Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, a Bavarian colonel who planted a bomb to kill the Fuhrer in 1944. The explosion killed four others, but not Hitler, and von Stauffenberg was executed (great, we just ruined the movie).
That sounds cool, but the Scotsman newspaper says the bomber’s grandson said Cruise isn’t the family’s favored choice. “I have nothing against [Cruise] and can even separate his work from his beliefs in Scientology,” Count Caspar Schenk von Stauffenberg told the paper. “But I and other family members are worried that the picture will be financed by the sect and be used to get across its propaganda. Unfortunately, the family Stauffenberg can do nothing about this. My grandfather is a figure from history.” Don’t worry, Caspar, it’s not like facts can get distorted in Hollywood.
