'The Howling' is latest victim of remake craze
Here's an announcement sure to make you howl: Indie producers Joel Kastelberg and Etchie Stroh are joining forces to remake the 1981 werewolf franchise The Howling, Varierty says. Werewolves really are the new vampires.
The Howling: Reborn will be helmed by Joe Nimziki, a former studio marketing executive who make his directorial debut using his own script. That's a recipe for success, isn't it?
Juice*heads of a certain age will recall the original Joe Dante version, in which an annoyingly dim TV news anchor (is there another kind?) played by Dee Wallace-Stone is chased by a serial killer who turns out to be rather beastly. Not to spoil it for you, but she turned into a Yorkshire terrier at the end of that one before they made Howling 2: Your Sister Is A Werewolf, which was really soft-core porn masquerading as a sequel.
