'Hurt Locker' producer is barred from Oscars
The Academy Awards are Sunday, so we should have some Oscar Juice*, don'tcha think? How about one of the producers for Best Picture favorite The Hurt Locker getting banned from the ceremony for lobbying for his flick?
Nicolas Chartier apparently sent e-mails to academy members imploring them to vote for his movie, the AP reports. Apparently the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences frowns on that, since it violates a rule prohibiting mailings promoting a film and disparaging another.
The Feb. 19 e-mail asked for members to support The Hurt Locker and not a "$500 million film" -- which shows Chartier is simply blue with envy. He apologized in a later e-mail, writing this "naivete, ignorance of the rules and plain stupidity as a first-time nominee is not an excuse for this behavior and I strongly regret it." Too bad. If his horse wins, he'll get the Oscar later. He can still go to the after-party, though.
