Idol Live! tour cancels shows after fans show lack of interest
If you thought the past season of American Idol was perfectly awful, you're not alone. So few are interested in the Idol Live! tour this summer that it's ending early because of so many canceled shows. Unfortunately, the Tampa event on Aug. 4 is still on. Suckers.
LiveNation has released a new schedule showing the the originally slated end to the series, a Sept. 16 show in Portland, Maine, will instead tie up in Indianapolis on Aug. 31 after killing eight dates. Concert sales at most shows continue to be slow at best and dismal at worst. Even with St. Pete's Big Mike Lynche as one of the 10 finalists on the tour?
“No one was very optimistic about the success of the Idols tour this summer,” a source told MSNBC's The Scoop. “They knew they didn’t have big stars on their hands, and really, ‘American Idol’s focus isn’t about creating a successful tour, it’s about creating a successful show, week to week. But unfortunately, the tour (not doing well) reflects badly on the show, especially since there’s the ‘who will replace Simon’ situation to contend with this year.”
Hopefully Idol producers will keep this in mind when auditions start in Nashville on July 17. We give it one more full season.
