'Idol's' Rickey Minor will replace Kevin Eubanks on 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno'

Tbd-rickeyminor041510 No sooner did Kevin Eubanks announce his departure from The Tonight Show With Jay Leno did NBC find a new band leader: American Idol music director Rickey Minor. Gee, Kev, that must make you feel really missed, huh?

The AP says Minor will join the show on June 7, after the current season of Idol ends. He'll still work with Idol creator Simon Fuller on other projects.

"We couldn't be more excited," Tonight Show executive producer Debbie Vickers said. She pointed out the show "has a long tradition of acclaimed musicians in this role, and it's great to now include Rickey alongside Kevin and Branford (Marsalis)."

Eubanks had announced he was leaving during the taping of Tuesday's show after being on Tonight since 1992. Minor's addition was put out there by NBC later in the evening, which we didn't hear because we only watch NBC on Thursday nights.
