Idris Elba says he would play James Bond, all right
There have been plenty of rumors lately that Daniel Craig will be out as James Bond sooner than later, so the inevitable debate over the next in line has ensued. Now people are saying that Idris Elba, currently of BBC's Luther and formerly of The Wire, could be 007. The big question is, could people handle a black James Bond? Elba sure could ... with a caveat.
"It's a very old rumor. ... I would do it, but I don't want to be called the first black James Bond," he told NPR's Morning Edition this week. "Do you understand what I 'm saying? Sean Connery wasn't the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn't the blue-eyed James Bond. So if I played him, I don't want to be called the black James Bond."
Actually, the Scottish thing always followed Connery around, and remember how people were calling Craig James Blond? So while we get where Elba is coming from, he has to realize, someone will have to do it eventually. At least the popular opinion is he would do it well, so he should start practicing with his Walther PPK already, because there's bad guys to kill and ladies to love.
