Indian lawyers get it in Gere
Remember Richard Gere’s controversial embrace of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty at an AIDS awareness event in India? Well, the AP says the legal filings have started. Three lawyers have filed complaints, including one in which attorney Poonal Chandra Bhandari accused the actors of committing “an obscene act” in a public place, which India’s conservative society cannot tolerate, Press Trust of India said. Two other lawyers filed another complaint in a court in Ghaziabad, a town on the outskirts of the Indian capital, against Shetty and private television channels for showing videos of the kissing incident. Apparently cases like this are common in India, where publicity seeking leeches often jam up the judicial system. Said Shetty’s rep, Dale Bhagwagar: “The media should concentrate on the promotion of the cause of AIDS awareness rather than making an issue out of kisses.” There’s a thought. Or we could all focus on Abhishek Bachchan’s and Aishwarya Rai’s wedding on Friday.
