James Bond loses catchphrase in 'Solace'
First they give us a dense title, and now the masterminds behind 007's rebirth have dropped the character's famous introduction of "Bond ... James Bond" from the upcoming Quantum of Solace. What's next? Hiring a blond guy to play the British spy? Wait ...
Solace director Marc Forster says that for the first time in 22 movies, the agent's trademark line got the boot: "There was a 'Bond, James Bond' in the script," he told the U.K.'s Independent. "There are several places where we shot it as well, but it never worked as we hoped. I just felt we should cut it out, and (producers) Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson agreed, and Daniel (Craig) agreed, too. It's nice to be open-minded about the Bond formula. You can always go back to them later on."
Everything changes so fast these days -- we're willing to bet in another 46 years they'll drop Bond's drink order of a "vodka martini, shaken, not stirred." Luckily, that little nugget is staying in Solace. No Eva Green, though.
