Jennifer Hudson tells VH1 about family murders
It's been almost two years since Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and nephew were all found dead in Chicago, but the singer is finally speaking out. The Juice* knows it couldn't talk to anyone about something like that, so we give J-Hud much respect.
"It's all a blur, it was surreal," she told VH1's Behind the Music, via People magazine. "It was like I was outside of myself."
She understandably says she went into hiding following the incident: "For almost two weeks straight ... (I was) inside one room with just family and friends coming in and out," she says. "I prayed when I'd get up in the morning and prayed before I laid down at night."
She credited brother Jason for helping her with her 2009 Grammy performance of You Pulled Me Through, saying she thought of him, mom Darnell and nephew Julian the whole time.
"I could hear my brother in my head, like, 'Jennifer, you need to kill this, you need to get up and do it,'" she says. "I knew he would be disappointed if I didn't do it justice."
Hudson added her 11-month-old son David and fiance David Otunga have galvanized her resolve. Little David, she says, "makes me feel like the most special person on earth. I want him to get the same love and the same upbringing my mother gave us."
