Jennifer Lopez quits 'American Idol'; Mariah Carey may be a judge
First Steven Tyler quit American Idol very publicly Thursday, now the rest of the dominoes are falling: Jennifer Lopez has said she's leaving, Randy Jackson may be gone and Mariah Carey may be a new judge. Just cancel the damn show already, Fox.
To start, Lopez went on Ryan Seacrest's radio show Friday morning and announced, "I honestly feel like the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do. ... Something has to give. ... We had an amazing run." So, two seasons, a huge drop in the ratings and a failed marriage to Marc Anthony is an amazing run, huh? We'd hate to see what she calls bad.
With those two gone, it's only a matter of time before lone holdout Randy ends up on the block. So cue the rumors that Mimi may be headed to prime time.
"They are in serious talks with Mariah and it's very close to being a done deal," a source tells Us Weekly. "And they will move Randy into a more mentoring role."
That actually could be a doable change, given that Randy is Mariah's manager and really, he needs to be put out of his judging misery on that show. We wonder what he would have to say about that deal ... perhaps he just wants her to have top billing over the likes of Fergie and Adam Lambert.
