Jennifer Lopez tops Forbes' Celebrity 100 list
Care to guess who the most famous person in the echo chamber that is Celebrityville is this year? If you guessed Jennifer Lopez, you would not only be right, you'd also be as surprised as The Juice* was. Divorcing Marc Anthony turned out to be a smart business move.
Forbes' annual Celebrity 100 says her $52 million in earnings may not be tops (Oprah Winfrey scored $165 million in second place, for instance), but she meets the criteria of their list by being all over Facebook and Twitter and hosting American Idol while selling clothes and fragrances and investing in tech startups. Never mind her movies and albums have been flops lately, or that most of that attention came from her split from her husband -- let alone the now-rampant rumors she may be leaving Idol altogether.
Coming in at No. 3 was Justin Bieber, who earned his own story by Forbes for investing in stuff like Spotify, Tinychat and Enflick despite only being 18. Rihanna scored No. 4, no doubt thanks to her Oscar-winning turn in Battleship. Last year's winner Lady Gaga dropped to No. 5, which isn't bad considering most people don't seem to like Born This Way and her touring has been limited.
Forget Britney Spears at sixth, because the most depressing is Kim Kardashian, who managed to turn her marriage and divorce last year into fame gold at No. 7. Don't forget, kids; you too can work hard at doing nothing and get rich for not doing it. Katy Perry, Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg rounded out the top 10, but we were so broken down by the Kardashian news we quit reading the list, which you can see here.
