Jenny McCarthy: My son is no longer autistic
Since Denis Leary's newfound leeriness of autism diagnoses has become apparent (which he has said was taken out of context), we turn to Jenny McCarthy, who says in the new issue of Us that she helped her son Evan recover from the condition with a wheat- and dairy-free diet.
"Before the vaccination, he was huggy, lovey, snuggly," she says. "Then it was like someone came down and stole him."
But after fighting with doctors and herself for a good long while, Evan showed back up while watching SpongeBob Squarepants one day: "I heard Evan laugh ... I jumped on the bed and started screaming," she says. "When he finally hugged me, I prayed, 'Please God don't let this be the only time.' "?
The apparent recovery has led her to sell her newest book, Mother Warriors: A Nation of Parents Healing Autism Against All Odds.
"I made a deal with God," she says. "I said, 'You fix my boy, you show me the way and I'll teach the world how I did it.' "??
